According to United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Bloomberg New Energy Finance report, all investments in renewables totaled $286 billion in 2015, some 3% higher than the previous record in 2011. Coal and gas-fired electricity generation drew less than half the record investment made in solar, wind and other renewables capacity.
Within this global context, ‘The Battle for Solar Power’ programme launched in September 2016 by His Excellency President Maithripala Sirisena has set in motion a much anticipated paradigm shift in the acceptance of the huge potential of renewable energy sources across Sri Lanka, predominantly solar power.
JLanka Technologies being the leading solar electricity provider in Sri Lanka, initiates the Green Energy Leaders Forum on ‘Global Trends in Renewable Energy Investment’ to create dialog between policy makers and commercial sector investors about solar energy. This dialog would eventually become one of the driving forces behind the success of ‘The Battle for Solar Power’ programme in time to come.
